Thursday 11.12.09 - St. Louis

Hello!

Apologies for the delay! Thursday began at Dave’s in Kansas City where he guided us to one of his favorite BBQ joints, Gates. The slogan there is “Hi Can I Help You?” and the ladies at the counter really drive it home. Todd was speechless when the phrase was shouted at him. Can’t be shy. My first choice, the “Burnt End Sandwich” (seriously) was unavailable, so I got the beef brisket sandwich, and it was quite delicious.

I always find there’s a correlation between food service that is boldly rude, or at least unconcerned with politeness—and delicious food. I guess if it’s that good, who cares about a smiling, attentive server?

After that we made the trek to St. Louis for our second appearance at The Firebird. We met some cool folks including the guys from The Vanilla Beans, who took the stage in Star Trek uniforms with a full on laser light show, and Bobby and Denise who came on a recommendation from friend-of-the-band, Nadine. Afterward we were treated to excellent accommodations with psychedelia-enthusiast and all-around awesome dude, Val, who hosts a radio show in the area. Great night in St. Louis!
