Sunday (and Monday) was an epic drive day! Although the route from Portland to SLC is a beautiful one, we didn’t make it to SLC until late. We picked up Todd at the airport after he was promised a ride and subsequently ditched by a young lady he met on the plane. It seems that she rethought her decision to “give a ride to a stranger” although the whole funeral/touring band/flying into SLC story seems an unlikely cover for a psycho killer. Worry not, readers, for Todd has vowed revenge.
We finally made it to Kilby Court right before Holiday Shores took the stage. I’m digging them more and more as we play, and they put on an especially good show at the court.
Kilby Court is the only SLC venue we’ve played (are there others?) and it has a special charm about it. Separate rooms (one of the venue fellows called them shacks) make up the performance space, merch booth and green rooms, and in the middle of this compound is an open outdoor area with a large fire pit and people circled around it. We always have a great time there, and this was no exception.
Afterward we finally got down to a little hacky sack followed by some late night burritos. Big thanks to Vanessa and Alex for putting up both bands for the night!
